Hair Extensions After Care

Because Hair Extensions are comprised of actual human hair (for example we use Spanish Hair, which is regarded as the best quality human hair by many experts) they can obviously be susceptible to damage the same as natural hair would be. However, whilst our own hair grows and therefore renews itself, hair extensions obviously cant that’s why a great after care regime is important for ensuring your hair extensions stay looking great for as long as possible.

Washing
You need to remove knots and tangles by brushing the hair extensions before you wash your hair. Use a quality shampoo that adds strength to the hair follicle and when you apply the shampoo wash your hair in a downward manner. After your hair is rinsed dab it dry gently with a soft towel. Its important you wait until you hair is dry before brushing as this will cause further tangles and damage and if possible use a soft-bristle brush when doing so.

Conditioning
Deep conditioning is vital to maintain a healthy shine for your hair extensions, and is something you should do every week. Leave the conditioner on the hair for about 30 minutes – again smoothing in a downwards direction.

Trimming
Just like your own hair – hair extensions will invariably suffer from split ends, so its important to trim them regularly so they don’t become unruly. A good rule of thumb is to trim them every six to eight weeks however be careful you don’t take too much off or you’ll lose a lot of the length too soon. If you’re not comfortable doing this you can always make an appointment at Passion Salon!

Be careful with…
Excessive use of blow dryers, GHD’s, curling irons etc…as heating tools cause damage no matter how gently you use them. If you’re going away on holidays make sure you wear a cap when swimming as all the chlorine and salt water will cause further damage and tangling.
